Whiting is part of the cod family. Whiting distinguishes itself from other fish species by its dark spot at the base of the pectoral fin and a dark colored side line.

The fish meat of whiting is very lean, very easy to digest and contains many bones, but they can be removed. Fresh whiting has a very fine and high-quality taste.
